1 Cost comparison technique:

1. Prices were obtained from either the October 2003 Vitamin Shoppe catalog or from a series of Internet searches (using Google as the search engine). Internet searches were conducted in September and October of 2003 using key words (e.g., “men’s formula, brain supplement, joint formula, etc.). The Vitamin Shoppe’s extensive website was also used to find comparable products. The product description (and pricing information) of the products used in comparisons were printed and are on file, as is the Vitamin Shoppe catalog.

2. Every effort was made to find comparable amounts of product ingredients. When that was not possible, amounts closest to those in the OHI products were selected. Amounts (mg or IU) of ingredients are noted in the tables.

3. Unless otherwise noted, the prices listed are for 30-day supplies. This was calculated by dividing the price by the number of servings, then multiplying by 30. For example, a product priced at 34.95 for a 50 day supply, would cost 20.97 for a 30 day supply (34.95 divided by 50 = 0.699 x 30 days = 20.97).

4. Some products are labeled as containing a “proprietary blend” of ingredients. This means that the ingredients are listed, but without any amounts. This makes it impossible to tell whether or not the product contains amounts which have been shown to have the desired effect.
