Neurocognitive
Testing
At Optimal Health Institute, we know
that the mind and the body are not separate.
What
happens inside your body affects your brain, and what happens with your mind
affects your body. To
assess you and make recommendations regarding therapies without assessing how
well your brain is working would be incomplete.
Additionally,
one of the biggest concerns we hear from people regards
memory.
Unfortunately, the scientific research is pretty clear – there are
“normal” declines in memory as you age.
The same thing is true with regard to the ability to learn new material
and to maintain attention and concentration. Another
area that has been shown in research to “slow” with aging is “response
time.” Response time is essentially how quickly you can react when
presented with a stimulus. For example,
when you are driving – how quickly can you react to avoid the idiot in the
next lane who swerves into your lane while talking on their cell phone?
We will ask you to take an assessment that will take approximately 30 minutes to
complete. This first assessment will
allow us to have an idea of your “baseline” functioning – essentially, how well
your brain is working that day.
Approximately three months after you start on the program (including any
recommended prescriptions, supplements, and changes in nutrition and exercise),
we will ask you to take the test again.
Although the research in the area is limited at present, there are some initial
indications that these kinds of interventions can improve how well your brain
works. By repeatedly testing your
neurocognitive functioning, we can more accurately assess how well your
individualized program is working for you.
Our
staff psychologist will interpret the results of the assessment and will give
you a copy of the report for your records.
