Microdermabrasion

The skin is our body’s largest organ and provides protection from environmental exposures while regulating body temperature. The outermost layer of skin is shed on a regular basis to be replaced by younger skin cells. As we age, this process slows down and the cumulative effects of sun damage become more apparent. If you are unhappy with age spots, fine wrinkles, or flaking skin, you might want to consider Microdermabrasion.  Available in Europe for years, this procedure is now the second most popular non-surgical cosmetic procedure in the United States.

So just what is Microdermabrasion?  Microdermabrasion is an increasingly popular cosmetic procedure available at reasonable cost without the associated discomfort of more invasive skin procedures, like chemical peels and laser resurfacing. This is a painless thirty minute procedure in which fine silica micro-crystals are sprayed and vacuumed from the skin to remove the outermost layer of dead skin to reveal younger, healthier skin cells. Think of it as a gentle skin polishing. Fine lines and age spots may be erased, and acne scars and stretch marks can become less apparent.  This procedure is ideal for busy people with limited time since there is no recovery period, no discomfort, and one can resume normal activities immediately. Following your first treatment, you should notice your skin feeling smoother and softer. Optimal results occur with follow-up biweekly treatments for a total of six sessions. Following each treatment, we will recommend using specially formulated creams to further soften and moisturize your skin. Once through the basic series, we recommend periodic touchups to maintain your skin’s healthy appearance.

So who are the best candidates for Microdermabrasion?  Virtually anyone who has concerns about premature skin aging, especially on the face or the top of the hands. This procedure also allows you to maintain a full social schedule without the prolonged healing times required of more invasive procedures. People with sensitive skin who can’t tolerate chemicals or make-up or who are acne-prone may benefit greatly from this mild abrasive therapy.

How does this fit into my overall healthy aging program?  Microdermabrasion is one component of your total program of optimal nutrition, exercise, hormone modulation, nutriceuticals, and fish oils, all of which will result in healthier skin. In short, you will be healthier inside and out. The beauty of Microdermabrasion is you see the results right away.
